I was just watching a show called Rock Star Wives the other day. The husbands, all famous rock stars, said it was unbelievable how when they were on the road, people were offering them drugs all the time, women would hide out in their bus, women would hit on them even tho’ their wives were standing right there, etc. The ones who had been able to maintain had been through the ringer in relationships and/or drugs and realized they didn’t want to do that stuff any more.
Now take a very young person who is under constant pressure to look a certain way, be seen with the in crowd, and they’re thrown into situations that they just don’t have the experience to deal with, and it’s gonna be a recipe for disaster. I wouldn’t want that for my kids.
Also, someone who’s barely out of high school, with all the hormones still going on, I don’t think they have the greatest judgment. Unless they have a really solid set of parents who will help them out (I’m thinking Jordin Sparks). Once they’re of age, there’s not much anyone can do if they run wild. That stuff happens a lot with many young people, but the easy access to drugs and being idolized has got to be tough to deal with. How do they know who is really their friend and who is just there for the ride?
Largely, I think, because most pop star types have to start very, very young, which, most of the time, seems to carry with it stage parents, a mediocre education and a heavily-blindered worldview.

[((Ambition+Early Success)/Latent Talent) - Guidance] + Cash = Tragedy
