If you were moving out on your own for the first time, what is the most important (or top five, or top ten) household item(s) you would purchase for your new home?
I am assuming you already have the most basic supplies, such a some food, a first-aid kit, and anything you would pack for vacation or expect your hotel to have, so toiletries, clothes, towels, toilet paper, soap, toothpaste/toothbrush, etc.

Mine would have to be a toilet plunger and a flashlight with extra batteries and bulbs.
I’m not sure how many of these fall under ‘basic’ to you, but things I needed last time I moved (I’m still sharehousing, so don’t have a full house outfit yet)
A kitchen draining rack.
A bathmat.
Some powerboards for that room with only one power outlet.
A skillet, a spatula, an oven mitt, ice trays, a plate, a cup, a fork, a knife, a spoon.
An extra set of keys, a can of WD-40, a screwdriver, a hammer, a wrench, needle-nosed pliers.
Extension cords, power strips.
A hose, a rake, a pair of work gloves.
A pen, a stapler, a book of stamps, an accordion file, a box of envelopes, some paper clips.
A ball of twine, a length of picture wire, some nails, some screws, some brads, some wall anchors.
A flashlight, a lighter, a box of wooden matches.

A Shop Vac.
A Dustbuster.
Flashlight that runs on rechargeable batteries.
Medium sized cooler.
Comfortable bed and comfortable sofa/chairs.
Window coverings.
Books, lots of books.
Bottle opener and corkscrew.
Sidebar: The first time I really felt like an adult was when I bought a vacuum cleaner for my first apartment. I stood there thinking, “this isn’t going to be fun to use, it isn’t a cute sweater, or a delicious treat, I don’t really want it but I know I have to have it.” It was kind of my first serious purchase, of a sort.
Booger press.
