How do you break out of a funk? What are your favorite anti-rut tactics? When you feel creatively/emotionally stranded at point A and you know you’ve got to get your ass over to point B, what kind of vehicle do you buckle into?

Kind of stuck in a rut like that now. Job hunt not going too well, midterms piling up left and right, and just generally no interest in working.
Usually I give myself a deadline and some music. Aka, I’m allowed to wallow for x minutes/hours, but then I have to start working whether I like it or not. And then I wallow and sulk for that amount of time, but once that deadline’s up, I put on some really happy or fast-paced music, write out a todo list and a timeline of when that stuff’s supposed to get done, and just… do it. I guess.
Only applies when the funk isn’t caused by timing, of course. If I’m depressed because I have too much coming at me at once an it scares the crap out of me to need everything done by x, I tend to just forego sleep until it’s done. Yeah.
Dance music.
Doobies.
Lists that contain important as well as fun things to do on them as well as things that, upon completion, will feel “accomplished.” Then I get treats.
I’ve got enough latent depression that this is a daily thing. I would be on the couch, metafiltering to the food network, if I didn’t schedule a trip to get froyo after the gym and take vitamins and drink a glass of iced coffee and read 80 pages of your book then order another vintage decal from ebay etc. etc. Yep. Ice cream and stickers. Works.
Taking a nice long walk with good music in the headphones.
